Don\u2019t feel bad &#8212; between the general acronyms, there are quite a few! I will break down a few of the most common ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">General Terms<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>On-prem<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Short for \u201cOn Premises.\u201d Simply, the infrastructure you have on site (or leased in a data center).<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>TCO<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; \u201cTotal Cost of Ownership,\u201d or how much it costs you to run your infrastructure on-prem or in the cloud. When a company is considering moving to the cloud, they may run some TCO calculations to compare costs between their current configuration and <a href=\"https:\/\/centricconsulting.com\/client-stories\/creating-repeatable-processes-for-complex-cloud-deployments\/\">cloud deployment<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Elastic Computing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; The great thing about <a href=\"https:\/\/centricconsulting.com\/blog\/what-is-cloud-computing\/\">cloud computing<\/a> is that it is flexible. Elastic computing just means that you can change things like computer processing, memory, and storage dynamically based on your needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Type of Cloud Services<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; This is the foundational layer of cloud, where you rent your infrastructure through a service such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>PaaS (Platform as a Service) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; PaaS allows developers to create and deliver applications via the web. Google App Engine, Force.com, and AWS Elastic Beanstalk.<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>SaaS (Software as a Service)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Think Gmail, Salesforce and <a href=\"https:\/\/centricconsulting.com\/blog\/mover-and-sharegate-migrating-data-from-google-and-box-to-microsoft-office-365\/\">Microsoft Office 365<\/a>. SaaS is a software application delivered over the internet.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Types of Cloud Deployments<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Private Cloud<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; A cloud on a private network with services available only to select users, such as a single business or organization. It may be maintained by the company itself, or they may pay a third party to manage it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Public Cloud<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Cloud services available to anyone via a third-party provider.
